Day 2: Jailhouse Rock(ing)

Thursday 19 March 2020

Alex slept in until 1030am, not his choice, he was aiming for midday. He can’t write about Leila’s morning apart from she lost her earplug in the middle of the night and woke him to help her find it. Once he did get out of bed, he walked down to Leila’s V60 first isolation coffee with Saint Espresso beans:

  • Taste: 1 Genuinely I’ve tasted tastier water (not even the fruity ones)
  • People: 10/10, was made with love an care A+ for effort if not for outcome
  • Environment: 7, there was a mildly stressed Leila doing 100 emails at once on the other side of the table

Leila smashed through work while Alex spent too much time buying last minute items of Amazon. (London had threatened to go into Lockdown by the weekend). Alex often asked for Leila’s advice and only once listened and didn’t panic buy a 1000 piece space puzzle. He’s not sure why Leila has the high ground as she spent more on a yoga mat.*

*This is factually inaccurate but she’ll let it slide

Work was fairly intense though, and so the tuna salad lunch was definitely needed, the soup wasn’t great though, more tasty than the coffee however. We both talked to our grandparents and sent memes to our families. Lots of support needed as Leila’s work was a mad house.

We were in lockdown all day, we felt much better, Alex 100% (or thereabouts, 95% at worst) Leila 70% but generally increasing (She’s still very cold). We got outside for Leila’s second break of the day and wandered briefly around the garden with tea (earl grey and ginger respectively). Was nice to be outside but felt a bit like a prison yard, but a happy one. Yoga in the sun in future.

After the break, Alex worked on high digital governance homework and spent some time stressing about renting his room back in Boston. Leila managed to simultaneously solve a VP’s problem by call, run a model on excel, and send 2-100 emails using mostly keyboard shortcuts. She did impressively manage to log off promptly at 1930 (good-going by her) and we ordered Dishoom while she took a shower.

  • Taste: 8
  • People: 10 (Under duress)
  • Environment: 7 Music videos were weird but we’re in the sitting room with candles (no more matches for a while… but do not fear, reinforcements already on the way thanks to Alex’s unhealthy Amazon habit)

Promise, the food is better than it looks, that’s not saying much based on Leila’s photography. She’s now made popcorn though which is delicious and we’re going to watch Wedding Crashers and sleep by 2200 (Unrealistic given it’s a 1.5 hour movie and it’s 2100)
