Day 3: Date Night

Friday 20 March

Leila woke up at 5am, to see Alex reading a sci-fi short story about robots on a satellite station, he couldn’t sleep. She then re-awoke a few hour later to do a solo barre class, start work and wash her hair. The last being Leila’s favourite thing (and considered productive). Alex got up later, did 5 mins of working out on the kitchen floor and we had a 2nd round trial of the V-60

  • Taste: 3 Better than before but still not great
  • People: 10 We should really change the scoring regime
  • Environment: 9 We were dancing around the kitchen most of the morn

Alex’s hoard of amazon packages arrived to a locked door that we couldn’t open for 10 mins, presumably to a bamboozled Amazon delivery man. When we finally got outside, to our horror, all the bins had been overturned and kitty litter, cigarettes and rubbish strewn across the porch. We spent the next 10 mins cleaning up and then throwing out all the bin bags and cardboard.

The packages included such things as candles, mice and a coffee maker. Alex was forbidden by Leila to go on Amazon again. Amazon later implemented delayed delivery for all non-essential Prime items nationwide after viewing Alex’s purchase history. We then spent our afternoon working and we had a couple of 5 minutes breaks in the sitting room. At around 1900 Alex started making potatoes and parsnips and we started a grilled veg dinner. Alex claimed it would take exactly and hour and a half and Leila was very clear that he was wrong. Leila made Brussels sprouts, broccoli and mushrooms.

Alex told Leila to put make-up on and we dressed up for a date-night indoors. Alex ironed a shirt, Leila put on a black summer dress. The potatoes took exactly 1.5 hours to Leila’s chagrin. We opened a bottle of champagne and celebrated being stuck together in a house and making everything work out. The dinner was delicious, we had candles, a Spotify playlist and the Netflix fire playing over the top. We chatted about not knowing anything about multi-lateral institutions, how policy might play out (universal basic income etc.) and how we could make the best out of the situation and help the wider community. Then we took this photo on self-timer because otherwise every photo you will ever see on this this blog will be of Alex (Leila is self-appointed photographer).

We made extra falafel and stayed up super late, because it was just really nice. We even watched some Bob Ross. In other wider news, the government announced closure of pubs, cafes and theatres but also gave workers 80% of their salary up to GBP 2,500/month if they are kept on but not working. Interested to see what comes next for the self-employed and small businesses in particular. All private hospitals are now focusing capacity on COVID-19 care too.
