Day 4: A Gran(d) day

Saturday 21 March 2020

We woke up around the same time (for once) and made a coffee with the new espresso machine. The plan for today was for Alex to give groceries to his grandma and Leila to chat with her family. The coffee was pretty experimental but we drank it in the garden

  • Taste: 4 Still not great, room for improvement, improved over time
  • People: 10 Still got to change this scoring frame
  • Environment: 8: Drinking outside in pyjamas was really nice

We got dressed, Leila rolled out her super new, fancy yoga mat, that she was so excited about and it was great, if a little sticky. Leila also enrolled into her ‘The Science of Wellbeing’ course from Yale on Coursera and did the first introductory lecture. It was really good and the tutor does the whole thing from her house. Alex did a bit more of his digital work but ended up chatting with people over WhatsApp again. We headed out to Waitrose to look for food but the shelves were empty! There was no fresh food. The walk through the church park was super nice though. Leila picked up stuff for the house and Alex picked up food for his granny. Alex found a super secret shop and delivered (with lots of hand sanitising to his granny up near the Barbican.

Leila did a secret workout, Barre of course, but only 30 minutes. Alex is not allowed to see her doing Barre. Leila read the Economist and chilled. When Alex was chatting to his friends’ Skype chat upstairs, Leila hosted 17 of her family together on a Zoom call, even her 92 year old great uncle in Toronto was there. It was a trial for Mother’s Day tomorrow.

We then listened to Leila’s dad on his Persian New Year address and there was 25 minutes of Tajikistan music preceding the address. We made food afterwards, soba noodles and miso’d vegetables. It was delicious, even though Leila wasn’t as proud as she should have been (slightly off sauce : noodle ratio). We did a 100 Jobs test after food, and I think we strangely overlap quite a lot, was actually quite useful. We discovered Alex’s secret desire to be a military leader or a SciFi fiction writer (this would be a struggle for Leila and her love for historical fiction and non-fiction) and Leila’s desire to run a school. Lastly before bed, we downloaded “HouseParty” and chatted to Priyanka for like an hour hearing about what she’d been up to and playing some drawing games.

A good and pretty chill day.
