Day 8: A work in pudding

Wednesday 25 March

Leila spent the first 2 hours of her day wondering whether Alex would wake up in time to make her a coffee before her hard midday caffeine deadline. He did. He made himself a great coffee first and took it into the shower with him, whilst she waited patiently. It was worth the wait – coffee was 5.5/10 (this is quite high) whilst sitting outside on our bench watching one of the neighbours doing her daily Tai Chi. Still the best part of Leila’s day.

A surprise package arrived. £70 worth of Pri’s Puddings which Leila made Alex pose with, because she knew Priyanka would want to post all the pictures on her social media accounts. Sure enough, within 20 mins of receiving the photos, Alex was an Instagram star. And Leila was tagged in every photo. The pies were tasty and we sent positive feedback to Pri who was really happy. After noticing the number of elderly people living on our street, Alex wrote out and delivered notes to every house our street offering our help with grocery shopping or any other tasks. We had 3 responses thanking us within a few hours.

We both then worked for a few hours. Alex organised an MPAID group Zoom forum where everyone chatted about what they had been up to and 2 friends played a song they’d made about the class. It made him really happy. He had leftover curry for lunch, which had improved in taste overnight. Day 2 curry is always the one. Alex took his lit class from outside and read his book. Leila’s work kicked off a bit but they made time for a 5 min break in the one patch of sun in the garden. Nothing interesting happened until dinner time as Leila was stressed with work, but had time to cook (Tuna, potatoes, Brussels and broccoli) during her work breaks. She also did a quick barre workout (interrupted by work) which improved her mood a little. We both wondered why we’re so busy all the time, especially given most people are struggling with boredom during this lockdown. A quick post dinner walk to the Canal improved Leila’s mood even more, as did the 9.30pm bed time. Thank you to Alex for suggesting.
