Day 9: Ventures Outside

Leila started her day doing a virtual barre class at 7.45am with Joohee (based in Berlin). Thanks to Alex’s pro Amazon ordering (*hoarding), Leila had exercise weights but Joohee did not. She used alcohol and water bottles.

After a short work stint and a hairwash, Alex woke up and began on the coffee. We were then interrupted by a knock of the letterbox; our neighbour from No. 30 was requesting help after receiving our note the day before. Her request: a 40-pack of Silver cigarettes from Londis within the next 2 hours. It was engineered to perfection – £30 left with some blue disposable gloves (to avoid touching money) and an Evening Standard on her garden wall.

Alex made it to Sainsbury’s (Londis was shut) but was surprised first by how many people there were around, quite a lot, and second by the weird tension and hostility everyone seemed to have. Gave him a weird mood for the day. He came back with loads of shopping for the week, including Oatly and lemon juice.

Cue daily blog routine on the bench except this time, for the first time, Leila had control of the keyboard because Alex was eating a smoked salmon baguette (with cheese and tabasco). Leila smashed the blog and Alex was relegated to backseat commenting.

We worked through the rest of the day, with Alex really enjoying his lecture on finance (and use of ‘soft data’). He also had shouty macro man in the shower, metrics was authoritarian as usual and Dev-401 was sparadic but ok. We took a break in the afternoon to lie down in the sun in the church park, with pretty dafodils and not may people.

Alex made gnocchi with mushrooms, leeks and peppers (blue cheese for Alex), and we ate it with a candle and conversation about our days. Before dinner started, at exactly 8pm, we clapped the NHS with everyone from our road, it was super nice and encouraging. The whole country was doing it too. We then watched two episodes of the Mandalorian on Disney+ (thanks Iman!) whilst eating popcorn. This was historic, as it was the first time we had ever made it through a full programme together (we have quite different taste in TV shows)
