We woke up super early and Leila made coffee. She sat outside in the morning and typed up the blog whilst we had coffee. Alex spent the morning doing admin, including creating the Dev-401 discussion group over WhatsApp and answering a whole bunch of emails. He listened to his old entrepreneurship lecture and tried to rush through his micro-problem set due for the next day. It felt like a whole bunch of admin-completion without much of a defined outcome. After lunch, he called into a meeting with QuantumBlack because they were interested in using some of his external datasets to improve their models. However, it wasn’t the government improving work he thought it was and avoided getting sucked into doing the project management role for the QB team.
Leila did nothing but work throughout the day, it was moving at pace and she didn’t leave the house at all.
In the afternoon, Alex had econometrics and development and then as they were so busy with work and lectures, they watched Alex’s lecture on developing country power over a dinner of potatoes, roast vegetables and salad. After the lecture, Leila went back to work (but had a quick 20 minute call with Anish and Arabella), Alex called Dave and Cam for an hour and Then headed to bed together. Leila got through a little bit of cable girls but overall it was a pretty busy day without much outside fun.
