Day 23: Work work work

Alex woke up early and Leila made two coffees, Leila went heavy into into work, while Alex explored datasets for his Covid-19 policy memo. Alex spent a lot of this time sitting in the garden and thinking about what he could do to improve estimates of Covid-19 in the UK. Was actually really exciting and he spent most of the day going on and off while thinking about it. He also read a large part of his book ‘Solaris’ about a space traveller whose memories are dredged up and made real in front of him. He worked opposite Leila who was deep in Goldman Sachs thinking.

The walk was really nice, and she listened to her audiobook most of the way, without it being particularly eventful or being told off by the police. When she got back, the internet was working again and she dived into work until the evening. Alex had back to back lectures from 1.45pm and he was pretty vacant throughout without being able to concentrate on any of the questions. He thinks he’s had enough of lectures for the week. He was super dead when he came downstairs so he read his book to re-charge. Leila seemed stressed by work so Alex made asparagus and mushroom pastries and salad in a bid to separate dinner from work stress.

Leila finished work at 9pm and they had a large glass of wine each, put on a candle and chatted about vegetables, sesame and how Leila can work with food. We listened to Barack Obama’s playlist and went to bed.
