Day 40: Toastie

Leila woke up extra early to finish off her Ismaili COVID work before she started actual work. She sent the deck at 8.25am and then moved on. Alex finished his book in the morning and then spent some time thinking about potential jobs in the future. He did this by writing out a huge list of things that interested him and also drew ideas from his hobbies (e.g. sci fi reading, games, Chelsea) and created a wide list. He also watched the FA cup final highlights from 1970 (Chelsea vs. Leeds) because his dad sent it to him. Leila took a break and watched too, she wondered whether this was the football match where her dad got punched as a kid being a Leed’s United fan and cheering for them amongst opposition fans.

Alex discovered that Greggs were starting to reopen some shops and he got too excited. made lots of nice potatoes for lunch and then Leila started making a salad using some leftover veg and a soft boiled egg. Meanwhile, Alex started Whatsapp calling his family (Whatsapp is really rubbish compared to Zoom) and they chatted about how he was feeling and his mum showed us the garden which looked nice and she had finished all of Misha’s puzzle. After that, Alex joined his lecture and Leila continued working. When she finished work around 7.30 she decided (with Alex’s help convincing) that she should go for a walk to celebrate the end of self-isolation, particularly because this was going to be the last day of no rain for a while. She walked for 30 mins and called Nicky to wish him happy birthday (he was really happy because Liyana had baked him some cupcakes) then listened to her Spanish podcast and then chatted to her sisters, who told her some gossip about someone they know of from school being a secret Pornstar. When she returned, Alex had just finished watching the rest of the endings in Bandersnatch- Leila was not too sad to have missed it. Then they decided to make toasties, two ways.

Toastie fillings were a combination of tuna, cornichons, spring onions, cheese, kimchi and avocado. Alex made his in the grill whilst Leila made hers on the frying pan (as this was how her favourite toastie ever in Salamanca as a child was made). The result was really tasty, Alex mildly preferred the pan fried method as the bread was better cooked. After dinner, they called Anish, listened to Leila’s Mellow Mondays playlist and went to bed very early.
