Leila woke up early, she didn’t sleep well, and Alex woke up early too. L headed out to buy supplies. Whilst out, she saw an Instagram post by Hidden Coffee saying they hadn’t qualified for a government grant as they’re a new charity and they had started a Go Fund Me page. She decided to detour on her way back to go support and she picked up 2 oat flat whites and brought them home. She tried to contact Alex to let him know via 3 different means (his phone, WhatsApp and Facebook messenger) and finally succeeded. They worked through the morning and sat out in the sun for a bit. L was busy working and Alex made himself a super tasty fried pasta and kept tried to feed a focussed Leila while she worked.
After lunch, Alex had his exam starting at 2pm. He was pretty chill about it and Leila had to remind him that the exam had started (and he still didn’t really stop playing games). After initial uncertainty over how long the exam would actually take, Alex kicked into gear after a bit, and moved onto using the big screen. He was quite content coding away, and thought the exam was surprisingly helpful at making him re-learn the material. He had 24 hours and it was all open book, which actually makes loads of sense in this context. Leila continued working the rest of the afternoon and took a break to do a barre class live on instagram with her new favourite instructor. Alex got his contract from the World Bank and was excited by the project – looking at subnational poverty data in Myanmar. Leila finished work after her call at 7pm; it was a pretty chilled day. She watched a little TV then came downstairs to cook a ramen. She danced to Roxanne in the kitchen whilst she cooked and Alex worked. She’d already played Roxanne 5 times by that point and had to stop herself from putting it on repeat because she knew she was verging on ruining the song for herself (see tomorrow’s blog post for how that went..)
After dinner, Alex went downstairs to do a little more of his exam whilst Leila watched some Chicas del Cable and read the FT. Alex came to bed not too late (he had 10.30 as his self-declared cut-off point) and read some World Bank documents ahead of his call the next day whilst Leila dozed off.
