Day 59: Psych! Capaldi, Curry and Coffee

We decided to start our weekend with a walk to the garden centre, which had opened a few days earlier. Unfortunately the queue was too long and we decided not too wait given we didn’t actually need anything and just wanted to browse. We headed to Hidden Coffee and got our usual. Alex also bought a croissant which wasn’t as flaky as he’d have liked but we then realized it was vegan and so were mildly impressed. We then went in search of green so we could utilize our new found freedom to sit down in public spaces. We sat down by the canal near Camden lock despite there being security guards there. Leila decided they shouldn’t rush back for her 11am Barre class because they were having a nice time but she watched a little bit of the class on her IG Live whilst Alex started feeding the ducks, to her dismay (they once ate her finger). Alex also had a look at his new Instagram profile and friends.

On return, Leila made some sourdough banana pancakes with no recipe. They looked really ugly but tasted nice. Then they tried to play Psych which Leila still doesn’t fully understand. She found it difficult to come up with non-realistic answers and Alex thought it was hilarious. Then L read A’s Dev102 essay on uncertainty in Myanmar’s poverty data and A played games before they went through her feedback. Then, whilst A adjusted his work and simultaneously watched the first match of the German Bundesliga, L started reading upstairs and did a quick stretch class. A really enjoyed watching football again. L then made a little parcel of flour for Kay and Tony as a thank you for their help. They were really appreciative and then they exchanged more sourdough recipes.

They decided to cook 2 curries together – one coconut based with sweetcorn (“makai paka”) and the other using frozen okra (“bhinda”). A was in charge of spices and chopping okra and did really well. They ate dinner outside and chatted about how they should make some Burmese dishes. A then mixed up all the different curries (See below) and L was a little horrified. L went inside to join her work friend, Krystle’s, 30th birthday Zoom. She doesn’t know her that well nor anyone else on the call and felt awkward as they were all introducing themselves and recounting stories of their friendships with Krystle. Meanwhile, A was watching Lewis Capaldi live from his home in Scotland; Leila had booked this concert a few days prior with a donation to a mental health charity. Lewis was really funny, casual and a little odd. They watched for a bit and then went back to join the birthday Zoom where they started playing Psych. L was happy because other people clearly didn’t understand either and also because A took over and played on their behalf. His answers were by far the weirdest.

After they signed off, they started watching Lord of The Rings as it has just appeared on Amazon Prime. They stopped watching after 40 mins because L had to wake up early the next day.
