Our first thought on this bank holiday morning was coffee, as usual. Alex chose Half Cup as our destination as we hadn’t been there since it re-opened, 2 days prior. En route, we chatted about Dominic Cummings who was facing calls to resign after breaking lockdown to go live with his parents in Durham. We thought Half Cup had a huge queue, but it was actually for the car rental shop next door. We got our tiny oat flat whites (good, but not as good as Coffee Jar) and wondered down to the park by Judd Street. It was super sunny and they chatted more about the news, carbon taxes and listened to the Economist leaders. L felt great as this was her ideal start to the day. She also noticed how many families were outside and saw a dad reading to his 2 kids on a bench which was very cute. They decided to split up reading between different papers so together they could get a less biased picture.
On return, L did some Ismaili work whilst A worked on his coding to see if he could go further but he got a little stuck. L got bored and started reading whilst A munched on a pizza. She sat outside reading and A joined her for a little. L decided to hand her phone in for the rest of the day; she notified her parents and told them to contact A in emergencies. Her mum immediately messaged A with an emergency and wanted L to rate her sourdough crackers.

A did lots of admin and L continued reading The Three Body Problem upstairs until A stole the sofa and TV to watch his anime dracula Netflix show. Then they decided to cut A’s hair with a 45 min timeline because A had a call with Hannah and Sam scheduled (note: last time, the haircut took 1h45). L kicked off whilst A sipped his G&T and listened ’10s playlist on spotify. L made A take off all his clothes and do it in the garden because last time there was hair all over the house for the next week. L had lost her confidence a bit but thinks she did the around-the-ear bits better this time but definitely messed up the back. At 4pm, they had to stop so A could join his call. He was covered in hair so wasn’t allowed inside so he had to sit outside without his webcam on to chat to them. Meanwhile, L went upstairs to watch Cable Girls. She knew A would creep into the house, and sure enough, when she got back there was hair all over the floor and he had come in to make himself another G&T!

A chatted to S and H for an hour about love and how to make the government more effective. L then finished off his hair and A went in the shower. L was feeling great without her phone, but very reflective. A made her a no-sugar G&T with mint and lemon and they sat outside playing a drinking game (but skipping all the questions they found boring) and Heads Up. Then they cooked together – vegan steaks, chips, asparagus and onions with a Korean sauce. They were super hungry and A ate 8 potatoes whilst L ate peanut butter, berries and rice cakes after. They chatted about commitment and things L was thinking about having spoken to Vyoma the day before. She was super chilled out but brain was still quite active. They decided to have a very relaxed evening on the sofa and watched Chris Martin’s concert live at home.
He was absolutely hilarious and was sweating loads. L loved how natural the whole thing was. They then listened to beautiful songs on youtube and L showed A the Ed Sheeran/Andrea Boccelli song. L was still feeling very contemplative and decided to write down her thoughts the next day. They continued listening to nice songs upstairs in bed, and headed to sleep quite late but very chilled. The only thing L worried about is whether she trusted A’s phone alarm to wake her up in the morning the next day.
