Day 69: First day of work

Alex’s alarm went off today for the first time. They were both already awake worrying that Alex’s alarm wouldn’t go off. It was the first day of Alex’s internship at the World Bank with the Poverty team looking at Myanmar’s data. L’s phone was still off from the day before. They both got ready and started work by 8.40am. L was still super chilled from the day before and took everything super slow (work was also really quiet so that helped). A started reading some of the docs on the personal One Drive and had a contemplate over breakfast (fried toast) of what he should produce for the project. Here is a picture of A with his new (messy) haircut on his first day:

L took a break to do an IGTV barre class at 1pm which made her really sweaty but she didn’t enjoy that much because it was too thigh-focused. She then roasted some cauli, joined her team call and made a Korean rice thing for A and a sweet potato cauli salad for herself. They sat outside together in the sun for lunch for the first time in a while on a weekday. They chatted about the WB and L was confused as to why they hadn’t given A systems / email access nor clear guidance (yet) on the project. After lunch, A continued reading many docs and highlighted in lots of colours per usual. L joined a few calls and called it a day at 6.30pm. She decided to go for a walk whilst A relaxed on the sofa watching his anime programme. She listened to some Spanish and on the way back from the walk went to Sainsbury’s for some hayfever medicine and other essentials. She bought some custard cremes and scones for 2 homeless people outside Sainsbury’s who requested that, but they did not seem that grateful. After she got back, she watched Cable Girls whilst A made dinner which was pad thai with L’s marinaded tempeh.

After dinner, A watched 10mins of Cable Girls with her before switching to anime again, which L could not engage with. She spent time looking at local food suppliers on a new website she found via Instagram. Then L convinced A to turn the TV off and threatened to go upstairs. Instead, they played Munchkin Warhammer and L beat A really quickly and without understanding the game. They listened to Chris Martin’s live at home and it was as funny as the first one (and he was equally sweaty). They then headed to bed and L was overfull having stuffed her face with A’s great pad thai.
