Day 70: Balls (Tennis)

A started the day a bit slower than before, and spent the morning looking at the Burmese data-sets. L worked from her usual 8.30 now she trusted A’s morning alarms to get her up. A also did all the admin work that he had to do for the World Bank and prepped for his intro call later that day. Tony came by and dropped around some elderflower coridial that he’d picked from their bush. They worked together downstairs until lunch when A went upstairs to have pad-thai and L stayed downstairs with cauliflower and sweet potato. A had a call with Ed Balls at 1.00 where he discussed career options and how to engage with the government, he was super pleased to have got it and had 40 mins 1 on 1 as the person after didn’t turn up. His basic conclusion was that if he wants to do something specialised within government then he should work outside to build up skills before moving in.

In the afternoon, A had his work chat with Giorgia who’s leading the team, the conclusion was that it’s super uncertain what he’ll be doing and that he should ease off for the moment as he only has a fixed number of days. L was a little bit down as her grandma had sent a message to the family asking to move to the UK from Dar to live for her last years. A was also a little down having spoken to his flatmates who were all having fun in Boston. L did an afternoon of calls in the kitchen and simultaneously cooked dinner. After the call, L was heading to have a tennis meet-up with Karim, her cousin, A walked her over and played the first 20 mins, but L and he stayed on and had a long walk back to the house afterwards which was super nice. A and L were actually quite a good doubles pair with L volleying, and L thought it was funny how professional K looked with his 3 tennis rackets and different tennis shoes. They talked about how he’s been doing and also his business and whether he should pivot into ESG investing a little more whilst they walked through Coal Drops Yard and L showed him the Aga Khan Centre. She really enjoyed seeing him and has missed social contact. After he headed back, they had dinner together, which L had made, it was a superfood medley of quinoa, broccoli, leek and cabbage. It was really good but they finished quite late, and L was still super full when they went to bed. A also spoke to Misha which was v nice and talked about how they were feeling. L and A discussed how no one really knew what McKinsey and Goldman Sachs did and they went to sleep.
