Day 90: Diversity Call & World Bank Blues

Tuesday morning, Leila had her call during the day so she settled into the downstairs kitchen. A had a call with his WB team in the morning to go through his literature review, he was super disappointed and they essentially wanted him to be a search function for them, to find them interesting articles to read. He felt quite annoyed that he was being given such a mundane task and is pretty angry at the World Bank in general. L hadn’t slept very much, only 3 hours so she needed a second coffee. They headed out to redemption roasters in Coal Drop’s Yard. They got a coffee and it was surprisingly nice, and they also really appreciated the walk and the break. A few shops had opened, but not many, and they were all empty.

After the coffee, L prepped what she wanted to say as her intro / moderator role on the diversity call and then made lunch. A put some gnocchi leek and broccoli in the oven which was fine until he added loads of blue cheese which stunk out the house, but apparently tasted really nice. A then went upstairs to chat to Claire who was really nice and reassuring re possible return to QB. L fought a fly and won, 2 mins before logging into her diversity session which was good but went way overtime and they did not have time for the breakout sessions. Instead they listened to 8 Black colleagues share their experiences. L: was exhausted and sweaty after and she came upstairs to chat to A and looked weird in the glass table. Session went well but L was a bit upset that one of her friends who she wanted to show she was trying really hard for didn’t really say anything.

A was looking at nowcasting stuff for dData (L does not know what this means) because he couldn’t bring himself to work on the WB stuff because he was being moody (Joking). L finished off her calls and chatted to some of the speakers post session. She then met Sonja who had cycled over and they went for a walk for 1 hour around the canal and chatted about different cultures, particularly traditional Indian/muslim families and the dynamics. It made L think a lot about her own family and A and after her return, they chatted about it over dinner outside. A had made a nice noodle and tofu dish which L kept eating until 9.30pm and then regretted it, but it was yummy. They headed to bed and L requested One Tree Hill. She was very chilled vs. earlier in the day and then A told her a story and she fell asleep right away.
