Day 97: Morning off!

Leila had decided to take the morning off, and was excited about her day. Alex didn’t sleep that well so Leila let him lie in until 10am. He panicked a bit because they had said they’d leave earlier and had the quickest shower in the world, so they could set off at 10.15am. They grabbed Boris bikes and it was super sunny and felt like the weekend. Their first stop was Catalyst where they saw Alex and other barista (forgot name) and bought 2 bags of coffee. Then they headed towards Borough Market… second time in 3 days. When they arrived, they headed straight for Monmouth coffee, they were in dire need after a longer than expected journey over. They picked up two OFWs and 250g of beans (they’d missed out on picking them up last time), they headed to the church and sat on the steps and drank the coffees. They chatted about how Mish ended up in AWS (and she’d helpfully put A in touch with her mentor) and slowly drank through their coffees.

They headed to bread ahead for first pickup of snacks, and A got a mushroom croissant and a large cheesy focaccia. They then had trouble finding something for L as 26 grains were not selling porridge, they ended up picking up a tuna sandwich from Joe and the Juice (after long deliberation) as well as some snacks from M&S. They headed up to the flat and L joined her Women’s Career Strategic Initiative (WCSI) call. She was a bit late but it was all a webinar so they sat outside in the sun and ate their food during it. The sandwich was a bit of a fail as it had dill in it (L’s enemy), so A ate that as well and L picked up some quick food from Leon. She bumped into her friend from work in Leon with her boyfriend, who had just left GS and moved into the yellow building opposite A’s flat. This is now the fourth day in a row L has randomly bumped into people in the streets of London and she finds it bizarre but nice.

They kept working until late in the afternoon and A taught L how to use Index match and SumifS as she realised all the Excel stuff she knows how to do is really hacky. A also joined a call with some Harvard people to discuss LOA and realized that he could come back in January if he wanted to but that most people were not deferring the full year. They headed outside while L dialled into her final call. A claimed that he wanted a beer but he was on a non-alcohol day. After L’s final call, (and A had finished some of his work on the ADB project), they decided to walk instead of cycle to Namaste Holborn where L had picked up some too-good-to-go Indian food that would otherwise have gone to waste. It was a slow journey and by this point their bags were pretty heavy and full (beans and other goodies) but they made it and the food looked great. They also picked up a couple of beers from a mini Waitrose they passed, alcoholic despite their initial look for non-al (they also picked up some reduced to clear sushi). They looked for a park but they were all closed or a bit rubbish, so they made it the whole way home. They opened up their boxes and reheated them in the microwave making an enjoyable quick dinner.

They sat outside and ate, and Kay came to chat through the gate as they hadn’t seen her in a while. They chatted about her PHD student in Sweden, the garden (obviously) and the new government guidelines which now allow 2 households to meet regardless of size, inside and out and allow restaurants to open from July 4 as well as pubs and hairdressers. L was annoyed that hairdressers are allowed to open but not waxing studios and her appointment on July 4 will be cancelled. She decided it was because our government is mainly male and they deem waxing as not essential, but haircuts as essential and Alex made a bold statement that even the women in government do not wax (?????). After dinner, L watched an episode of OTH without A as he was busy doing his ADB submission. She then started reading Homegoing and A came up after a while and chilled for a bit reading the news before heading to bed.
