Day 99: Anish comes to visit

L hadn’t slept at all in the night, she’d spent until 4am semi-happily tossing and turning in the hottest night of the year, but at 4 started getting a migraine to add to the sleeplessness. She decided to do some work and it was late enough that even her New York colleagues were closing down for the night. She sent a bunch of emails and actually was quite productive. At 5.40 she called her dad (who always wakes up early) and he advised her to take the day off. She took his advice and finished work by 6am and emailed her team telling her she’d be out of office. Then she headed to the loft to lie down so she didn’t wake A. A woke up because of his alarm at 8,15 and came to find L who was still awake. He tried to get her back to sleep but she wanted him to listen to the WB’s presentation on Myanmar so they both went back downstairs and A put it on the background (L thought it might put her to sleep… it worked). She slept for about 30mins before waking up again and then dozed on and off for a few hours and read in between. By 1230 she had slept about 2 hours and called it a day and got ready. Meanwhile, A had a productive morning doing his ADB presentation downstairs. L made herself a coffee and sat outside in the baking heat whilst A worked and then made them both omelette.

They both went to Boots to buy anti fungal cream for Alex’s finger and then L headed to Waitrose, Lina Stores and Cos. L was quite quiet as her migraine was pretty bad and she couldn’t really talk. She picked up ravioli and white wine plus snacks for dinner. On return, A had made quite a lot of progress on his presentation and had enjoyed the walk back home too. L made a snack of yoghurt berries and granola and she loved it. A sent her his powerpoint and she reviewed it whilst he chatted to Hannah and cleaned the kitchen surfaces and did some hoovering. L also reviewed her mum’s website. Then L prepped a few things for Anish whilst A continued on his presentation. Anish arrived around 7pm and it was great to see him after 6 months. L felt way better on seeing him and had a lovely evening despite lack of sleep and migraine. L and Anish chatted in the garden whilst A finished off his presentation and they broke to cheers to some nice white wine (Anish’s first drink after 3 months). He looked super healthy and happy and L was glad he seemed to enjoy lockdown so much.

A submitted his presentation and then joined them for starters of baguette, cheese, hummus, olives. A did not look at the Chelsea score because he wanted it to be a surprise on MOTD but Leila did (they were up 1-0 at this point). Then they had mains of ravioli and salad. Anish and Leila chatted about some of the things they’d learnt during lockdown. Anish left after dinner and L headed straight up to unwind and try and sleep early (unsuccessful) whilst A finished tweaking the presentation and submitted it officially. He then came up to watch MOTD preluded by Friends. L decided to watch too and A was getting super nervous but was happy that they won 2-1, allowing Liverpool to win the league. Then A told L a story and told her he’d requested to defer for the year (thanks for the info.) L debated whether or not to take melatonin because she hates medicine, but in the end took 5mg and it sort of helped but not entirely.
