Wednesday 15th
Leila woke up and felt like she hadn’t slept. She had a very productive first hour of work where she sent out her handover and finished stuff off. Then she woke A up to tell him she was going out for coffee and asked if he wanted to come. He chose the takeaway option and she headed off to Caravan and sat outside with a real mug and nice coffee. Service was slow but that’s normal in a COVID world. A did a bit of work and had a chill. L wrapped up work and tried to finish packing and cleaning but was getting a bit stressed. A made a huge lunch of all the food in the fridge, including the tofu and dhokra which L was sad about but it was a misunderstanding. She had a beautiful bowl of muesli instead. They packed up the house and headed to Luton a cool 4 four hours ahead of the flight. They ran around St Pancras to pick up tickets, get a decaf 5 mins before the train and to make sure A’s card worked. A is weirdly more nervous about train times than L.
They arrived in Luton with no hiccups and very quickly. The bus was ready and waiting and it was empty. They ran straight to check their bag in, which was overweight as expected as L brought a hairdryer and straighteners and A bought 6 chargers and lots of unnecessary cables. They unpacked a few things and got it down but L realised in the process that her glasses case was empty and she was sad for a bit.
They chilled in Pret for a few hours and A did some work, L ate a tuna sandwich and bought a book, and then A ate a cheese pastry. There were very few things open at the airport and L loved it because Luton is usually horribly busy. They wrote 3 days worth of blog in Pret.
They boarded the flight which was actually running early (mainly because there are so few flights today) and they put their FFP3 masks on. L told A he couldn’t take it off the entire flight. Wizz Air did not put in place any social distancing on boarding or on the plane, it was fully packed and L and A both felt a bit weird. They listened to a podcast about mindfulness and then L read the NYT (which was free!) while A wrote a job application and then played a game.

They arrived in Split and bag came out super fast and a guy from the hotel was waiting for them. The airport was really nice and new. They chatted to the driver/ hotel man who was really nice and gave us loads of recommendations and L was happy with the personal service. They pulled up in Split by the marina and walked into old town to find the hotel which was super centrally located and is a UNESCO heritage site. They were waking through the streets listening to music and watching street performers and it felt so different to London. Our hotel guy was the only one in a mask and no one was socially distant. They felt very lucky to immediately feel that they had escaped the virus. L particularly loves the ceiling in the hotel which is wooden and beamed. They had quick showers and headed on a wander to find some food. A’s stomach was a bit dodgy (probably the raw milk) and so they went to a vegetarian restaurant which looked really nice and had a man playing the guitar outside. They immediately felt on holiday and there were lots of people sitting in the small cobbled streets eating. They shared a vegan burger and vegan truffle pasta which was amazing. L had a £3 Croatian red wine and A had a Staropramen (cheekily from Chzechia). The waitress was lovely and they wanted to tip her so they went to an ATM and A by mistake took out £500 of Croatian currency (he thought he was taking out £50) and then told Leila to tip the waitress £30. Luckily she was confused and then they laughed about all the cash he was holding and planned how they would spend it as they walked along the marina which was really busy and lively. They noticed that the Croatian women all seemed to be quite dressed and made up and the men were quite casual (A was actually overdressed for once in a white shirt and L was undressed). After a walk they found another bar outside where there was live music and A had a second beer. L was a bit tired and her eyes were hurting a little but she enjoyed the music, especially Purple Rain. They headed back to the room discussed breakfast with the nice man in the hotel who asked them what time they wanted to eat and specifically how many croissants they eat breakfast and what time. L went to bed thinking of the croissants but couldn’t fall asleep. A fell asleep immediately.
