Day 121: Saltine, Trogir and Sug

Friday

A woke up to a wide awake Leila asking him if she could head to breakfast as they were the only people staying at the hotel and she felt bad if they missed it (it was 10.29 and breakfast finished at 10.30am). They had been up at about 3am the night before as L couldn’t fall asleep. L had some leftover bread from the bakery the day before which she ate with a boiled egg and a banana. A came down and had this croissants and cheese. Then they tried to figure out how to get the ferry to Bol on Brac island, but found out the ferries weren’t running to Bol because of COVID and were going to Supertar instead, leaving at 1.30pm earliest. They decided to go for coffee to a  speciality roaster just outside old town which was lovely and they had oat milk flat whites (Oatly was a weird taste as it was the bio brand) and L loved the mugs which were made in Croatia. They chatted about dData and A’s plans for ADB.

Then they walked to the port and decided that they didn’t want to go to Supertar which was 1 hour from Bol. They chatted to a random tourist lady selling tours to the blue lagoon but decided not to do the semi private tour but instead talked to her about Deepak Chopra. They then saw a ferry that had just pulled in called the Blue Line and decided really impromptu to jump on and go to 2 islands they didn’t know anything about. First, Slatine which is a small fishing village with about 4 restaurants and an inflatable kids water playground. They found some Deck chairs and had a beer and a pineapple juice on the beach and felt really happy with their choice. Then they walked along the beach and found a secluded pier. A got in but L didn’t want to because it was quite chilly so she read her book and watched him. He decided he wanted a snorkel so walked quite far back to buy one and ended up with a mask. L was reading in the meantime but thought A had left her as it was quite a while. He came back and went swimming again and saw small fish whilst L read. Then he realised he lost one sock so L went to the restaurant without him and he couldn’t find her and panicked and asked everyone on the road if they’d seen her. She had sat down and ordered a squid ink risotto (speciality) and then gone off to find him which she did in the middle of the road and a random lady saw them reunite and laughed. They ate the risotto really quickly and jumped back on the ferry to Trogir. They ate a cookie from Kruscic bakery on the way which was yummy.

They only had 1 hour in trogir. They walked through the small town and saw the sites and beautiful buildings, best preserved 13th and 15th c architecture in Europe and then went to a fort for a bit because A wanted to go despite having to pay. It had good views. Then they walked about a bit more, went hat shopping and bought an almond Trogir speciality pastry (that maybe had chocolate in it but the guy didn’t know) whilst A peed in the pastry shop. L ate the pastry and it was nice (but probably had chocolate)

The sun came out and they chilled on the top deck of the ferry whilst L read and A chilled. They arrived back, showered and headed to a local seafood restaurant called Sug which was just outside the town centre.

They were seated in the garden which had cute fairy lights and was right next to the herb garden where they got all their veg. They had a big fish strew in special sauce (octopus, prawn, mussels, white fish), bread, polenta and veg with 2 nice wines. It was yummy and L had never had most of the stuff before. A got excited by the local gins on the menu but ordered wine with food so was determined to find the Old Pilots Croatian gin after. Then they heard to a jazz gin bar which only had imported gins sadly so they left and found the nicest place on the promenade to have a single gin and tonic which was yummy and they listened to a singer who was singing and playing the flute and chose really hard songs.

Then they headed back and chilled to some music in their gowns before bed.
