Sunday
Our full day in Hvar and we’d planned the day before to go kayaking to the islands, however in the morning we got a call from the kayaking company warning us that it was going to get really windy in the afternoon and offering to move the date if we wanted. We thought about it over a large breakfast that Leil has run out in the morning to get us breakfast which we are outside. We had croissants, bread, cheese tomatoes, super sour berries (which L loved), and pear.
A looked up the weather forecast and found the wind only really picked up after 2pm and he backed hod’s and their abilities to steer them safely.
They headed down and we’re comforted by the quality of gear and preparation of the Kayak Guy. They had a cushioned Seat, day bags, a map that has wind directions, snorkels and a satellite transmitter in case they had trouble. He was nervous that L was a beginner but happy for them to try and turn back if needed. They set off and kayaked quickly across the channel to the first islands. It took about 45 mins of paddling and L was super good within about 10 mins. They stopped off a bar on the island and hiked to mlini beach in the other side where they camped only for a few moments.
They then headed 30 minute kayak onwards to a little cover hidden behind that was the first sandy beach they had come across and had a couple who happened to be from London and even more specifically Chiswick and St Paul’s, they chatted and found out he was a consultant and she in film production. Then they both went for a swim which was beautiful and A his snorkel. When they returned the couple had left and so they had the sandy little beach to themselves so they took some selfies, ate walnuts and sweets. Then they kayaked back stopping near mlini beach for one Pan beer on the sun loungers. They only stayed 10 minutes because they had to make it back to Hvar before the winds got bad. The winds had already got fairly bad and their kayak was veering towards the coast a bit but A kept his cool on behalf of them both and they made it past the little island safely. Then, the home stretch. They could see what they thought was their final destination ahead of them. They navigated past some bigger boats and then realised that their end point was actually to the left of where they thought and the winds blowing them right. Things were a bit choppy. Next thing you know they capsized and the boat flipped. L’s flip flop was caught on her foot under the boat so A waited and then flipped the boat once l was in the clear. They had a couple of strips at L getting in and we’re eventually successful, but they lost one of A broken flip flops to the sea forever (hopefully to turn up on a beach someday). They powered through the final stretch despite being blown ferociously the other way. They were pleased when they dropped the kayak off because the kayak dude has been checking in on them the whole way.
They went to falco on the beach but it was crazy windy, A had flat white, bread and salad but they were both so cold After 15 mins they had to return home. They should have cuddled up but instead A went to play D&D with the boys as a penultimate session while L read outside and warmed in the sun,
L finished her book Homegoing and then showered, she smelt. They then headed to town and decided to eat at &black pepper after not really having planned (which is weird). They went first to backlane for a beer and a juice, then tried to go to fig Hvar to watch football but the sports bar was on the other island. Instead they wanted something a little exciting and with a nice vibe so ended up on the staircase table. A had octopus stew with polenta and L had tagliatelle with scampi, the scampi was huge and L had clams for the first time, it also came with a nice starter and grappa, which Alex drunk both of.
A was following Chelsea on his phone which the waiter thought was dummy given how romantic the setting was. L felt a little dizzy so they headed home and watched Julie and Julia, they thought it was sunstroke so A got wet towels and wrapped them around L’s head. She fell asleep while watching and A hugged her to bed while finishing the movie.
