Tuesday
They woke up early, well holiday early I.e., 8am, and rushed to get ready, L was obviously done first and they’d packed the night before. L rushed to the bakery and also to the coffee man while A meandered and had a shower. They meet up outside grey line and got the bus, which left wonderfully rapidly once everyone boarded. They were sad they wouldn’t the boat in, but the guide was good and they listened to him for the hour journey to the park. When they arrived L needed to run to the loo so they left the original tour and headed off by themselves
After a quick loo break, they had a breakfast of 2 cheese pastries, banana and brown bread for Leila. The boarded the boardwalk and walked into the semi forest area with fish on each side. There were quite a lot of tourists and it was crazy hot – 35 degrees. L wasn’t feeling great and they were both quite lethargic but it was pretty. They arrived at the main waterfall area and found the best seat on the rocks to set up camp where they could see the waterfall but not the hundreds of people around them or in the water. L couldn’t swim so she sat with the stuff and A went off swimming. He made it to the waterfall and then went right to an uncrowded area. When he returned They chilled and A had a beer, before they tried to leave the business behind. A found a back-route on maps.me (has he mentioned he loves maps.me) and they walked for a while on a quiet trail and ended up at a beautiful lake in the mountains. It was empty, contrasting massively to the busyness of the waterfall area. They had a beautiful picnic of fancy bread from Kruscic, mussels and tuna from Uje deli, sour berries, salad. L was really glad she listed to A and his maps me ventures.
They then got back on a very hot bus (it was 35 degrees by this point) and headed 30mins to Šibenik (they hadn’t booked this tour but somehow managed to be on it). On arrival they learnt about the city and its foundation and defenses in the 11th century but it was really hot and they were flagging a bit, so they went for ice cream instead of following the tour to the church. A had an amazing hazelnut ice cream that L loved too. Then they walked through the pretty small town, saw the cathedral and ended up finding Old Pilots Gin again and having a drink before getting back on the bus to go to Split. They found a hat stall right by the bus stop and L tried on some hats but didn’t like the cheap looking rim so didn’t buy it, but it was the closest they came to finding the perfect hat.
After a quick chill, they headed to Monika’s wine bar for their final night and sat outside and had their favourite white and red, with some bread, mussels and squid. Monika was quite busy and stressed as they had a big wine tasting going on but L and A had a nice time but ate way too much considering it was a starter (including extra portion of oil) and then realised they probably couldn’t eat dinner properly at Bokeria, which they had booked. Instead they went on a hunt for sushi and found themselves in a nice place outside and ate salmon skin sushi (which was the best), california rolls and spicy tuna rolls. They really noticed a change in the atmosphere with many more tourists in groups and less locals. They were glad to have come a week early when they did. After sushi they headed back and slept late.
