Part 2: Day 1 – this time it’s personal

Hi (from Leila) – we’re back again, the blog has been reborn, we’re back in isolation and living together again.

Since last time we posted, we’ve been moving between places, we’ve lived in Chiswick, Kings Cross and Germany. We’ll post some stuff on Berlin in a bit.

But here’s day 1 of back to lockdown:

In the morning, L and A (Arabella this time) did L and A (Alex)’s old Sunday routine and went to Coffee Jar, Korean supermarket, whole foods and Gails followed by Regents Park. A said she thought the coffee was the best she’d had in a while and L was happy to have shown her around and to spend time with her in the sunny cold. Then L’s parents arrived and picked up all her stuff (including lots of wine, beer and gin which L’s dad did not look impressed with and they sort of just awkwardly ignored it). They drove to Marylands Road and moved all her stuff in.

A’s morning was finishing up packing and then he tuned in to D&D for a little bit with some of the boys, while he finished off. Then he planned with his parents his plan of moving over. He didn’t quite make the grade for includion in the car, so instead the dog replaced him. A cycled over (whilst listening to D&D, potentially his favourite way of engaging) and got lost many a time. Parents headed over similarly to give Charlie a walk.

Iman and Cara showed L around and then A arrived on his bike, which L’s dad loved and immediately took out for a ride. It was a beautiful sunny winter day and they headed off for a walk to Toast for coffee, and Iman showed them some cute areas. They ran into an old friend, Samah which was so random but nice. It felt very different to last lockdown which was much less chilled, and the streets were really quite busy plus lots of shops still open despite only “essential” shops being allowed. Then they headed to the Canal and L suspected they might run into A’s parents who she knew were walking Charlie nearby ahead of dropping his stuff. 5 seconds later, they bumped into them and weirdly L’s family had walked on. A’s mum was wearing some nice sunglasses and they looked chilled and happy along the canal. L was confused as to where had family had gone and A decided to go back with his parents to move his stuff in. L and her family walked on for a bit and ran into Imaan Kara which was also so random. Dad ran home ahead of everyone else because he was desperate for the loo (lockdown troubles) and L laughed because she had never seen him run before. Meanwhile, A had set up all his (very few) things in the house.

L was sort of happy when everyone left because there was a lot of people around, and soona as they left L heated up some brown rice, potato curry and made some patra (leaf from a can, per Alex) that her lovely mummy had made so they could have a home cooked meal on their first night. It was yummy and they jumped into pyjamas at 5pm. A appreciated how their routine returned immediately but this time he was prepared… He’d brought slippers and 3 pairs of pyjamas.

After lunch, they unpacked and L washed her hair and had a reading session (Bob Iger’s “Ride of a Lifetime”) whilst A watched Chelsea and got annoyed because they were 0-1 but then was happy because they won 1-4. A was having a really nice time with Leil, but she was doing other things, look at her little pleased face, not quite sure what she was doing… Instagram?

After Alex was pleased with the football, they checked the news and Biden had won! They celebrated with a glass of nice red wine from Waitrose (A had a head start with a few beers.. see below). He cheers’d to fellow Americans. The whole world seemed to he partying and rightly so.

Then they watched episode 1 of the Queens Gambit which was surprisingly dark but they both enjoyed it. Who knew about the use of tranquilizers in orphanages (apart from Leila)? L also made a little snack of rice cake, sprouts, kimchi and courgettes which was very weird but nice. They headed to bed super early, but slept late.
