11th – 19th March: Skiing Together!!!

After breakfast in Emmer, A went to McKinsey to judge the Queens College Innovation challenge. He loved it – he had really good feedback from the students after. The projects were really impressive and the McKinsey recruiting people told him that he was good at talking to young people and getting them enthused. Meanwhile, L went to Trinity Bellwoods pool and it was good but her mouth was feeling very weird. Then part way through they told everyone to get out of the pool because the PH was too high (that explained the weird feeling). She ran home and went straight for a facial, which was good, but when she came out she was feeling a headache from having banged heads with Julie Anne the night before. A came home and they cuddled on the sofa and watched This is Us in the middle of the afternoon and it was the highlight of L’s day. They then headed for dinner at Annie and Paddy’s – who had an amazing 4 bedroom apartment that was so homey and made L think of wanting to decorate a home with A. They made ottolenghi lasagne for us and apple crumble. It was a very lovely evening with friends.

On Sunday, L was feeling kinda gross but they went to pick up Indian food from a little store so they could cook a curry. A went to Milly’s for coffee on the way. It was a pretty rainy and grey day, so they took it very slow. L and A did a few hours of work and in the evening they made rotli in the evening together which was funny and also a version of Makai Paka with Patra that was lovely. It was such a chilled day and L felt really zen in the evening. They watched Anish’s BBC documentary and it was incredible – they were so proud of him. It felt so authentic and natural, even though he was being filmed.

On Tuesday eve, L had randomly booked them a breathwork class that was free and happening in a pilates class round the corner. They did 45 mins of deep breathing and it made them both feel tingly and chilled. L was excited because she didn’t think breathing could do that. It had been a particularly stressful week at work so it was much needed.

On Wednesday eve, they headed to Nani’s for dinner. They ordered Mantra for dinner and – as usual – the Indian food was so nice, especially the fish curry. Nani was really enjoying it too. Unfortunately L spilled turmeric curry on Nani’s carpet and she felt so bad – A helped her clean it. L also went to see Sadru and Shiloo for an hour whilst A chilled with Nani and they did the wordle.

On Thurs, L had a bad day at work and she came home stressed. She had a new manager and wasn’t sure it was going well. A took her on a long walk and they chatted about it all. L was very appreciative.

Throughout the week A had lots of nice lunches which he sends the photos of to Leila…

On Friday, A went into the office and it ended with McKinsey drinks where he chatted to Bruno and it was Paddy’s Day. He came home at about 8pm and L had just finished work (she had taken a break for a haircut) and was still feeling down. But A convinced her to go to La Palette (stopping at dim sum on the way) and they ate there for the first time, sitting in the back! They had mussels, chips and cauliflower soup with nice wine. It was such a good time. A came back and watched Iron Chef and L started snoring.

On Sat, they had agreed with Will & Tamara to set off to Blue Mountain at 10 am. L headed off to Nutbar for a Matcha while Alex had a morning chill and coffee, whilst gathering together all the ski stuff. They dressed up and put together a suitcase with LOADS of spares. They set off at 10.15 and chatted loads, listened to a podcast on Patagonia and chilled. There were ‘Squalls’, infrequent snows and winds that completely removed visibility for the drive. It was better when they got there, and they rented their equipment super quickly at a place outside of the Mountain. When they got there, A and L headed to the babiest slope (didn’t even need a magic carpet) and A taught L how to put skis on and snow plough. They quickly progressed to the magic carpet and bunny slope and did that once, but there were so many kids and people who were super out of control so L was getting nervous. They moved on to the second bunny slope and A taught L how to shift her weight a better. L was feeling good and A took on her the graduate slope where she started learning how to parallel ski because her knee was hurting weirdly. She fell but it was fine, and then they took a break and went to have coffee with Tamara and Will. Alex and Will then went off to do some good skiing on the black slopes and then L joined A again and they went up a chairlift!! L made it down a green slope from the very top, twice! She fell, twice!! But it was feeling much more natural and she was so happy A was there to pick her up when she fell. It was a massive success, especially because she did not think she would ski at all this season due to her back. They went for beers and burgers with Tamara and Will afterwards, then drove back home listening to a blend spotify playlist with all 4 of their music. It was very chilled. A great Saturday.

Important: L felt SO loved, when A was teaching her and putting her boots on, and worrying about cold she was, and being so gentle and loving. She felt like a queen.

Sunday: they headed to 135 ossington, after L spent 1 hour gathering tax docs. It was such a cosy coffee, and then they went to Vildas for sandwiches on the way home and grabbed some other goodies. The afternoon was chill – some cleaning, some work, A did his tax return in 30 mins for free which was really annoying to L who has already spent 1 hour and has to pay 140 CAD for an accountant. They cuddled and watched This is Us and A found it so awkward because Kate and Toby were getting divorced. He kept pausing it. L then made a makai paka curry with quinoa and they ate together before A’s flight to New York.

The flight is leaving in 2 hours, so he should leave
